The Dayton Foundation Supports Basic Needs of Students

August 16, 2022

The Dayton Foundation’s Basic Human Needs Grant recently supported Crayons to Classrooms with funds to provide socks and undergarments to area students in need.

The mission of Crayons to Classrooms is to secure and distribute school supplies through our Teacher Resource Center at no cost to teachers of students in need around the Greater Dayton, Ohio region.  Approximately 83% of the students served live in low-income households with families struggling to provide essentials.

Increasingly over the past several years, teachers request that we stock basic undergarments.  “Learning time is missed, students are anxious…The need for these items is great. I would often purchase [these] items to have in stock.” ~ Bonnie Smith, retired teacher, Dayton Public Schools

Thanks to grant funding during the 2021-2022 school year, Crayons to Classrooms distributed 40,000 pairs of socks.  Funds from The Dayton Foundation’s Basic Human Needs Grant will ensure these essential items are available during the 2022-2023 school year.
